How Pavers Calculation Works

This calculator divides your project area by the face area of a single paver to determine quantity, adding waste for cuts and breakage. It also estimates the base gravel (4 inches compacted is standard) and bedding sand (1 inch) needed under the pavers. For driveways, increase the gravel base to 6–8 inches.

Formula

Paver area = (Paver Length × Paver Width) ÷ 144 sq ft. Pavers needed = (Total area ÷ Paver area) × (1 + waste%). Base gravel = Area × 4/12 ÷ 27. Sand = Area × 1/12 ÷ 27.
